Peek inside our Living Space

It has been awhile since I have shared anything with the status of our house! We kinda got caught up with life and haven't done so much decorating lately so some rooms and pieces are unfinished, but I wanted to share my favorite room in the house where we spend all of our time, our living room! I will try to leave links and/or product detail where I can if you are still curious about something just ask via the comments for more info!

Immediately when you come in our front door we created a little seating area, mostly where Geoff drops off his work stuff for the day and where we keep all of the mail and our keys. We had this odd corner that we didnt know how to use and this makes perfect use. I am still looking for the perfect round rug to put under the chair.

Chair- France & Sons (Original), Throw- Ikea, Pillow- Orla Kiely, Lamp- Ikea, Side Table- Vintage 1940's Mailboxes from The Find in Newport Beach

In our main living area is our sofa. We decided to go for the Ikea Karlstad sofa and loveseat combo and while it is really comfortable, it is a big large for our space. I love that it defines the space as its own, but when we have more then 4 people over, it gets a little close! The dog loves it though, he loves to sit on the top of it (right by the pillows) and look out the window all day long!

Sofa- Ikea Karlstad in Isunda Grey, Chevron Pillow- World Market, Pillows- Ikea

This graphic print rug fills in the space and makes it feel more comfortable. These are the original oak floors that one previous owner had refinished so I am trying to maintain them as well as possible. Plus I love the look it brings into the room, and the fact that we can swap it out for a new look at anytime we may want!

Moroccan Print Rug- Rugsusa.com, Coffe Table- France & Sons (Original), Stripe Throw- Ikea, Ampersand Pillow- Crate & Barrel, Pillow- Ikea, Coasters- Orla Kiely for Target

Down the hallway is where I am working on our Instagram Prints on our wall! I decided to add another  graphic print runner down the hall to give it some color. If anyone has advice on how to keep a runner from moving and sliding around, I'm all ears!

Rug- Home Goods

Another look of the seating area. We repurposed this vintage apartment mailbox set we found at a vintage store by adding glass to the top and making it a table. I love how unique this piece is! It even came with the codes for some of the locks so we can open them.

I love having a statement wall, or a cluster of different frames and photos in one location. These tall white walls were begging for some color and I love how it turned out!

L to R: Vintage print of Amsterdam, Iowa Barn and Pike Place Sign taken by me and framed, Ghandi Printable from Pinterest, New York in black and white from Ikea, Framed Instagrams of us and our dog, "Home is Where Ever I'm With You" from Etsy, Space Needle taken by me, Flower Canvas from Target.

The opposite side of the wall.

L to R: Nato Phonetic Alphabet from Marshalls, San Francisco collage from Etsy, Thrifted frame of London, Photo of Lewis taken by me, "Keep Calm and Carry On" from Etsy, Postcards of Paris purchased on a trip and framed.

What rug would you suggest for this area? I also think some sort of magazine holder or something would be cool on the empty side of the chair. Either that or I have always wanted a standing coat rack!

View of our front door! The door was my project from day one. I choose the door style, the handle and lock and most specifically the color. It looks amazing on our grey and white house and I still wanted it to be a fun color on the inside as well. This area isn't completed yet, but it works for now! This table doesn't have a home anywhere else yet, so for now I use it to drop all of my stuff on when I get home. A coat rack could also work here as well. And don't laugh, that rug was about 75 cents and a quick fix that we haven't swapped out yet!

Horseshoe- Was my Grandfathers, Anchor Hook- Antique purchased in Cambria, CA, Texas and California Prints from Etsy, Framed Instagram of us, Print of Italy from Ikea, Table- France & Sons, Rug- $1 from Home Depot (need a new one!)

We moved a few frames over just because the wall was really bland, but these frames always move around from opening and closing the door all of the time. I don't know what else to put here so for now, this is it!

We have a large window in the front of the house and we swapped out the old vintage 24 pane messy glass for 4 large panes that slide completely open. We spend the majority of our time with the curtains drawn, the windows open and the cool breeze coming in. I love how the curtain feels really light and airy, but has the must subtle print. Plus the pattern shape really pops out when you are on the street at night, looking at the window with the lights on. So cute!

Curtains- Ikea, Curtain Rod- Ikea (discontinued!)

This photo came out kind of odd, the wood looks really orangey but I promise it isn't. This is the main view of our living space. The two bookshelves were actually a 3 piece unit, that was old school and meant for a small tv, so we decided to break them up and place something more modern in between. I like how it turned out, still being able to use the vintage pieces, but mix in the new. As for the white entertainment piece in the middle, I love that it is off the floor, so it helps the floor stay clean and the room appear the slightest bit bigger, instead of it looking full.

Bookshelves- Vintage, Tv- Best Buy, Entertainment Unit- Ikea, Lamp- China Town SF

Just a quick peek and a closer look at the bookshelves. They aren't arranged in any particular order, but I use one and boyfriend uses the other. I thought of doing it by color or something, but I think random just works best for me. I like my eye to just travel past it, instead of really focus on what is there. We still need to unpack a few boxes on the shelves and put everything in its proper place.

This hutch is also another piece that was handed down from Geoffs Grandma. It matches our dining room table, but we never really saw it as a place to store our "dining" things. Right now it faces the table, but backs up to the couch because we didnt have any more available wall space to place it against. It is taller then I would like it to be for the room, but I have gotten used to it. We displayed some things on top, but for the most part it is still empty. I love how it looks though so we cant get rid of it!

Typewriter- Vintage from Thrift Store, Camera- Vintage Brownie, Tray- Missoni for Target, Reed Diffuser- Orla Kiely

One of my favorite finds thrifting was this vintage (mint green but you cant really tell!) Voss Typewriter! It even still works perfectly! I used to use it, but now it is there just for looks but I wish I had someone to type and mail a little letter off to! The brownie camera used to be Geoff's Moms, I don't know if it works or not but I love how it looks so we put it on display!

So there it is, a little tour with some not so great photos of our living space. I cleaned so I decided to take a few hurried shots for you guys! Its not perfect or finished, but we're getting there!

  15. I love how homey your place is! And all of the colors are so cute and cheery :) one tip I've heard for keeping runners/rugs in place is to use that really strong house glue/putty (that's used for wood and stuff) and put it in zigzag horizontal lines on the bottom. That way it won't slip!

  16. You can buy special lining to stop rugs slipping. In London John Lewis sells it; in the US maybe Jo-Ann? we use it to stop sofa cushions slipping but its designed for rugs on wood floors.
